How to back up ur data on a mac?














Nothing more important than taking a backup of ur system files, when there is chance of hard drive getting failed.
Ideally ur backup should be redundant. In other words, you should create atleast two backups on two different media. Atleast you need to have clone of ur hard drive.

What you’ll need

1.A HARD DRIVE. In order to take a backup , you need to have a equal or greater capacity hard drive.

2.SOFTWARE: Here are some of the third party vendor software listed below. Or if you are using Unix savvy, you can go for rsync and cron, which are built for Mac OS X.

SuperDuper: SuperDuper is a well known inexpensive software, the full version cost just around $28 ,and it gives you free trail to try.
In the free mode, it can create complete and/or partial backup clones to a hard disk , or create a disk image file(.dmg). The full (paid) version allows to you schedule the back up period and also allows you to specify individual file to get backed up.

SuperDuper also features “sandbox”, which helps in protect ur boot disk from catastrophic failure by creating a bootable copy of ur OS. This copy is stored on another hard drive that shares all ur personal documents and data with original file .

CarbonCopyCloner: CCC is a absolute free version ,that allows you to either selectively backup files or clone ur hard disk with a bootable external disk, in case of any failure .

Time machine : As part of the OS , the standard installation comes with the time machine ,which was created by Apple themselves ,provide a free and easy backup process. Time Machine can be set to backup every hour, every day, or any set number of days.

ChronoSync: ChronoSync is another synchronization option that comes with an drag and drop option. Just drag the folders ,you need to backup and choose ur options.
Choronosync cost around $30 , but you can download a free demo copy to its features.

LaCie SilverKeeper: SilverKeeper is a simple and easy tool , capable of backing up any mountable devices(CDs, DVDs, hard disks ,tape disks, etc.).
Silverkeeper is available for free download from the LaCie website.Silverkeeper can set up schedules , make bootable clones, skip selected files and has a number of other nice custimaisation features.
